We are happy to announce a new update to VolunteerMatters!
VolunteerMatters is excited to announce a new release of VolunteerMatters scheduled for September 10, 2020.
This release represents a huge communication upgrade within VolunteerMatters as well as a significant revamping of the contact record/my profile volunteer history for an improved administrative and volunteer experience. This update also includes a number of smaller updates and new features that will be sure to please!
For the most part these updates while extremely helpful will not substantially change the system's interface so there's really no "training" required. We just want to make sure you know these features and updates are now available to you. There is nothing you need to do to receive these improvements and they are all included.
The update includes the following highlights:
- Text Notifications
- Automated Communication Preferences
- New Volunteer History (My Profile)
- New Volunteer History (Contact Record
Details:
Text Notifications and Preferences
We are very proud to announce this major communication upgrade to VolunteerMatters! We hope this update will make the automated assignment communication with your volunteers much easier and reliable. Prior to this release, the only automated assignment communication was via email. While emails are great, we are always fighting a never ending battle against Spam filters so your legitimate emails make it to their intended destination. Now the volunteer will have the option to verify their mobile number and receive text notifications for assignment signup confirmations, assignment withdrawals, and assignment reminders! They will also be able to set their preferences for the automated assignment notifications to get both text and email notifications, one or the other, or none at all.
For more information click on the following links for verifying your mobile number and setting your preferences.
New Volunteer History (My Profile)
We are very proud to announce this updated functionality! Previous on a volunteer's "My Profile" page they only had a summary version of their volunteer history along with limited date filtering options. The summary is still available on "My Profile", but is moved to the right hand side of the page (depending on your device) and the detailed version of their history is now on it's own page access via the "History" or "My Volunteer History" buttons detailed below.
Once they click either of those buttons they will be taken to their "My Volunteer History" page (https://customercode.volunteermatters.org/volunteer/my-profile/volunteer-history), where they can see a detailed version of their volunteer history with the organization, including the ability to sort by a start and end date, the ability to include or exclude incomplete assignments (excluded by default), and a hour total of whatever results within the list displayed.
Also included is the organization name and volunteer name if you print directly from the page. This functionality can be used when the volunteer needs to have a printed version of their hours for their school, etc..
As with all reports within VolunteerMatters the volunteer history on the volunteer's profile is available to export.
HINT: Like any other tabular information in VolunteerMatters, the "Search Box" allows you to enter any text in the box to narrow down the onscreen results. Like some pages, the Search Box on the Contact Volunteer History allows you filter on specific fields in the results. For example, Self-Reported Hours on a position are listed as their own records in the history under the type "Reported". So if I wanted to only show those types of results I could enter the following in the Search Box:
Type=Reported
This will search/filter for the value in that column and produce those records that meet the different criteria.
New Volunteer History (Contact Record)
Similar to the volunteer's "My Profile" volunteer history, the Contact record page also only had a summary version of the volunteer's history along with limited date filtering options. The summary is still available on "Contact" record, but is moved to the right hand side of the page (depending on your device) and labeled "Volunteer History Totals". The detailed version of their history is now on it's own page access via the "Volunteer History" button detailed below.
Once they click on the button they will be taken to the "Contact Volunteer History" page, where they can see a detailed version of the volunteer's history with the organization, including the ability to sort by a start and end date, the ability to include or exclude incomplete assignments (included by default), and a hour total of whatever results within the list displayed.
Also included is the organization name and volunteer name if you print directly from the page. This functionality can be used when the volunteer needs to have a printed version of their hours for their school, etc..

Another column you can filter on via the Search Box is the fulfilled column. Now you can always exclude incomplete assignments from the list from the main filter options, but there may be a time when you want to only display incomplete assignments. You can do that by making sure you are included those incomplete assignments and entering "fulfilled=0" (without quotes) in the search box to exclude those completed assignments.
