Creating API Keys in VolunteerMatters
Within VolunteerMatters, you can create API Keys and Secrets to utilize in external integrations. These can include Zapier, Daxko, or general API access. Your level of API access depends on your subscription level. All subscriptions include the ability to create a Key to use with Zapier, but additional access requires high level subscription access or add-ons. If you are unsure of your access level, please submit a Support ticket via email or live chat in your system (for Professional and Enterprise subscribers).
To create an API Key and Secret within your VolunteerMatters system, do the following.
- Log into your VolunteerMatters system with the "Security" access role and then click on "Security" in the menu and then click on "API Keys".
- This will open up the API Key Configuration page. Here you will see a list of existing keys previously created. To add a key, click the "New" button (
).
-
This will open the new API Key Configuration Settings where an administrator enters a Label and toggle the Authorities this particular Key will use. The options are:
- Zapier
- System API Version 1 - All Access DEPRECATED
- System API Version 2 - All Access
Your Authority options will depend on your subscription level and/or add-ons. For any API connections other than Zapier, you will need the "System API Version 2 - All Access" version. This includes the Daxko Integration and the VolunteerMatters Salesforce App.
Once the settings are configured, click the "Save" button ().
- This will take you to the API Key Display page with your API Key and Secret displayed. **Please be sure to write down both the Key and Secret for your newly created Key or click the "Download" button (
) to keep a copy. This will download a plain text file with your API Key information. You will never be able to access the Secret again via VolunteerMatters.**
You can click the Return button to return to the main API Key Configuration page where your new key will be listed and ready for use.
You can edit an existing Key to update its selected Authorities or Delete the key itself by click the "Edit" Button on the main API Key list. Once on the Key, you can toggle the Authorities and Save. Or click the Delete button to remove the API Key from your system.
